News Release

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred about 45 km (25 miles) north northeast of T'ai-tung or about 225 km (140 miles south of T'ai-pei at 9:38 PM MST, Dec 9, 2003 (Dec 10 at 12:38 PM local time in Taiwan).

The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.
