The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred about 80 km (50 miles) south southeast of Feyzabad, Afghanistan or about 275 km (170 miles) northeast of Kabul at 3:24 PM MDT, Apr 5, 2004 (Apr 06 at 1:54 AM local time in Afghanistan). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. The earthquake was felt strongly at Kabul.

At least one person killed in the Shahr-e Bozorg area. Felt strongly at Kabul. Also felt at Delhi and Guragon, India; Srinigar, Kashmir; Islamabad and Lahore, Pakistan; Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
