The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A moderate earthquake occurred about 65 km (40 miles) NNW of Buzau at 2:34 PM MDT, Oct 27, 2004 (11:34 PM local time in Romania). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. Felt in the Bucharest area. There have been no reports of damage.

Minor damage to several buildings at Bucharest, Braila and in northern Bulgaria. Some roads damaged in the Bucharest area. Felt throughout Romania. Also felt at Chisinau, Moldova; Burgas, Plovdiv and Shumen, Bulgaria; Istanbul, Turkey; Kiev, Mykolayiv and Odesa, Ukraine.
