The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred about 60 km (35 mi) north-northwest of Kerman, Iran at 7:25 PM MST, Feb 21, 2005 (Feb 22 at 5:55 AM local time in Iran). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.

At least 612 people killed and 1,411 injured in Kerman Province. An estimated 8,000 homes damaged or destroyed in the Zarand area.
