The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred about 285 km (175 miles) south of Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia or about 1590 km (990 miles) northwest of Jakarta, Java, Indonesia at 5:56 AM MST, Feb 26, 2005 (7:56 PM local time in Indonesia). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.
