The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred 115 km (70 miles) SW of Padang, Sumatra, Indonesia at 4:29 AM MDT, Apr 10, 2005 (5:29 PM local time in Indonesia). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.

Felt (V) at Padang; (IV) at Padangsidempuan; (II) on Nias and at Pekanbaru. Felt (III) at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and (III) in Singapore. A tsunami with a wave height of 40 cm was observed at Padang.
