The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A moderate earthquake occurred about 35 miles north northwest of Hilo, Hawaii at 9:48 AM MDT, Jul 15, 2005 (5:48 AM HST in Hawaii). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. The earthquake was felt throughout the island of Hawaii. There have been no reports of damage.

Felt (V) at Honokaa, Honomu, Ookala, Papaikou and Pepeekeo; (IV) at Hakalau, Hawi, Hilo, Kamuela, Keaau, Laupahoehoe, Paauilo, Pahoa, Papaaloa and Wailoloa; (III) at Captain Cook, Holualoa, Kailua Kona, Kapaau and Volcano. Felt throughout the island of Hawaii. Felt (IV) at Haiku, Kihei, Makawao and Wailuku; (III) at Kula, Maui. Also felt (IV) at Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Manoa and Waimanalo; (III) at Honolulu; (II) at Makiki and Palolo Valley, Oahu.
