Magnitude 6.5 NEAR THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred NEAR THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN about 110 km (70 miles) east of Sendai or about 345 km (215 miles) northeast of Tokyo at 6:13 AM MST, Dec 2, 2005 (10:13 PM local time in Japan). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time.

Felt (III) at Kamaishi, Misawa, Sendai, Tokyo and Yokosuka. Recorded (3 JMA) in northeastern Honshu and (2 JMA) in much of northern and central Honshu. Also recorded (1 JMA) in the Abashiri area, Hokkaido and in southwestern and south-central Hokkaido.
