The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred 250 km (155 miles) SSW of Taron, New Ireland, PNG at 7:20 AM MST, Dec 11, 2005 (Dec 12 at 12:20 AM local time in Papua New Guinea). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. There have been no reports of damage.
