The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred IN THE HINDU KUSH REGION, AFGHANISTAN about 105 km (65 miles) south-southeast of Feyzabad or about 90 km (55 miles) west-northwest of Chitral, Pakistan at 2:47 PM MST, Dec 12, 2005 (Dec 13 at 2:17 AM local time in Afghanistan). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time.

Five people killed at Tili. At least one person injured in Jalalabad. At least 300 livestock killed and 100 houses damaged in Badakhshan. Several houses damaged at Baramulla, Fariabad and Uri, India. Landslides blocked several roads near Bagh, Kashmir. Felt (V) at Lahore and (IV) at Islamabad, Pakistan. Felt (IV) at Kabul and (III) at Bagrami, Afghanistan. Felt (IV) at Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Chandigarh, India. Felt at Gilgit and Muzaffarabad, Kashmir. Also felt at Balakot, Mansehra, Peshawar and Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Also felt at Amritsar and New Delhi, India.
