Magnitude 6.7 NEAR THE COAST OF CENTRAL PERU

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred 50 km (30 miles) W of Chincha Alta, Peru and 155 km (95 miles) SSE of LIMA, Peru at 4:48 AM MDT, Oct 20, 2006 (5:48 AM local time in Peru). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. There have been no reports of damage.
Minor damage (IV) to some houses at Pisco. Felt (IV) at Chincha. Felt at Lima.
