Magnitude 6.8 SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO, ARGENTINA

News Release

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred NEAR SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO, about 210 km (130 miles) ENE of San Miguel de Tucuman, or 255 km (160 miles) SE of Salta, Argentina at 7:26 PM MDT, Nov 12, 2006 (10:26 PM local time in Argentina). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. There have been no reports of damage at this time.

Felt (III) in Catamarca, Corrientes, La Rioja and San Juan. Also felt at Asuncion, Paraguay.
