The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred about 40 km (25 miles) NNW of FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique at 12:00 PM MST, Nov 29, 2007 (3:00 PM AST in Martinique). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.
One person killed, at least 100 injured, several buildings damaged or destroyed and power outages occurred on Martinique. Two people injured and several buildings destroyed on Barbados. Minor damage occurred on St. Lucia and St. Vincent. Power outages occurred on Guadeloupe. Felt (VII) at Fort-de- France and (VI) at Le Lamentin. Felt (VII) at Cap Estate, Castries, Soufriere; (VI) at Choc and Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. Also felt (VI) at Bolans, Antigua. Felt (V) on Barbados, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Saint Kitts, Saint Vincent, Trinidad; (IV) on Bequia, Dominica, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Nevis, Saint Martin, Tobago and throughout Puerto Rico; (III) on Saba, Sint Eustatius and at Savanna- la-Mar, Jamaica; (II) at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Felt (V) at Georgetown and Linden, Guyana; (IV) at Lelydorp and (III) at Paramaribo, Suriname; (IV) at Kourou, French Guiana. Felt (IV) at Ciudad Bolivar, Ciudad Guayana and Maturin; (II) at Caracas and Puerto La Cruz, Venzuela. Felt at Armenia and Bogota, Columbia; at Macouria, Montjoly and Remire, French Guiana; at Overwacht, Suriname. Also felt throughout northern Guyana and Venezuela. Felt as far south as Boa Vista, Brazil.
