The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred about 90 km (55 mi) east-southeast of Mito, Honshu at 10:45 AM MDT, May 7, 2008 (May 08 at 1:45 AM local time in Japan). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time.
Six people slightly injured in Chiba, Ibaraki, Saitama and Tokyo. Power outages occurred at Tsukuba. Felt (V) at Tsukuba; (IV) at Tokyo and Zushi; (III) at Atsugi, Ayase-shi, Misawa, Narita, Yokohama and Yokosuka. Felt throughout northern and east-central Honshu. Recorded (5L JMA) in Ibaraki and Tochigi; (4 JMA) in Chiba, Fukushima, Miyagi and Saitama; (2 JMA) throughout northern Honshu.
