Magnitude 6.3 EASTERN XIZANG

News Release

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred 80 km (50 miles) W of Lhasa, Xizang (Tibet) and 2625 km (1630 miles) WSW of BEIJING, Beijing, China at 2:30 AM MDT, Oct 6, 2008 (4:30 PM local time in China). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. There have been no reports of damage.

Nine people killed and at least 19 injured. Many houses in Damxung collapsed. Felt (IV) at Lhasa. Also felt at Thimphu, Bhutan.
