The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred 150 km (95 miles) ESE of NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga, 345 km (215 miles) S of Neiafu, Tonga, 510 km (320 miles) ESE of Ndoi Island, Fiji, 1995 km (1240 miles) NE of Auckland, New Zealand at 11:10 PM MDT, Oct 18, 2008 (Oct 19 at 6:10 PM local time in Tonga). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. This earthquake is located in a remote area and no damage or casualties are expected.

Felt (IV) at Nuku'alofa and also felt at Vaini.
