The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred 160 km (100 miles) W of Ile Hunter, Loyalty Isl., New Caledonia, 290 km (180 miles) ESE of Tadine, Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia, 420 km (260 miles) E of NOUMEA, New Caledonia, 1650 km (1020 miles) NNW of Auckland, New Zealand at 12:27 AM MST, Jan 15, 2009 (6:27 PM local time in Loyalty Islands). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. This earthquake is located in a remote area and no damage or casualties are expected.
