The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred about 90 km (55 miles) S of Raoul Island, Kermadec Islands at 7:11 AM MST, Jan 18, 2009 (Jan 19 at 2:11 AM local time in New Zealand). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. This earthquake is located in a remote area and no damage or casualties are expected.
