The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred IN SOUTHERN SUMATRA, INDONESIA about 225 km (140 miles) SE of Padang at 7:52 PM MDT, Sep 30, 2009 (Oct 01 at 8:52 AM local time in Sumatra). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time.
Dozens of houses collapsed in Kerinci. Felt (IV) at Jambi, Kepahiang and Padangpanjang and (III) at Bengkulu and Pekanbaru. Also felt at Duri. Felt (II) at Jakarta, Java and in Singapore. Also felt at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
