Magnitude 6.9 NEW BRITAIN REGION, PAPUA NEW GUINEA

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: An earthquake occurred about 75 km (45 miles) SSE of Kimbe, New Britain, PNG or 520 km (325 miles) NE of PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea at 7:04 AM MDT, Jul 18, 2010 (11:04 PM local time in Papua New Guinea). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time; however, this earthquake may have caused damage due to its location and size.

Felt (III) at Port Moresby. Also felt at Goroka, Kimbe, Kokopo and Wau. Felt at Gizo, Solomon Islands.
